GAME DESIGN
At Gecko you won't just learn one aspect of Game Design. In one year, our immersive Game Design program covers everything you'll need to join the industry, including theory, hands-on practice, and portfolio production. What you will learn — from visual storytelling to game audio to level design to motion capture — will prepare you to be an active part of any game development team. Working with other students and mentored by professional faculty, you'll take a game prototype from concept to completion.
27 Billion Dollar Industry is an opportunity where numbers speak for themselves. Initially Gecko Animation Studio works for Tiger & Hare Studios in L.A and Wild Brain Studio in San Francisco.
The Global Animation market for games will account for 70% of all computer animation production in the next five
years and beyond.
Games provides the platform for a perfect combination of computer programmers and computer artists to work in
perfect harmony side by side, like two wheels of the wheel barrow.

First ever game modeled textured and programmed in any 3D Animation Studio.
Program & Term Overview
Weeks 1-8 (Term 1)
The first term covers the essentials of the field starting with an industry overview in game production, and establishing fundamentals in game theory, visual storytelling, and storyboarding. Starting with audio tools and finishing with an engineering course to give an overview of programming systems and terminology.
Weeks 8-16 (Term 2)
The second term builds on the foundation of game theory and storytelling with videogame theory, story structure, and creative process. Art and animation fundamentals move to hard skills in 3D modeling. A six month series of film production courses is kicked off resulting in a digital video project which involves filming, editing, and audio post. The technical aspect of gaming also introduces a two term scripting course that allows non-programmers to modify existing game engines and create their own games.
Weeks 17-24 (Term 3)
Term three sees a shift from theoretical to practical work with pre-production techniques, advanced design documentation, and critical game analysis. You start filming your digital video piece, working with motion capture data, and seeing the process from beginning to end of creating front end interfaces (menus). Term three also sees you get more in depth experience with 3D modeling and using audio in game engines.
Weeks 25-32 (Term 4)
Term four courses wrap up your practical training as you complete your film using low poly modeling techniques to create game elements and interfaces and level modeling which allows you to modify an existing game engine to create your own game.
Weeks 33-40 (Term 5) (studio Based Internship)
The majority of term five focuses on the student production cycle. Guided by mentors carefully selected from local development studios, student teams conceive, plan, and execute Game Design Projects. While these projects build directly on theories and techniques learned earlier in the program, the projects can range from detailed level modifications to mini games to highly experimental interactive narrative.
Weeks 40-48 (Term 6)
This term sees you pull all the work you have created over the year into a professional portfolio and gallery of visual assets. At the same time you are mentored through industry preparation including corporate research and interview training. You will be given an opportunity to evaluate your work over the previous year.
